Enjoyment and player development meet through the combination of technical skill practices and fun, soccer-style games focused on maximizing the time each player has with the ball. All players are placed on teams of up to 14 players and meet once or twice per week, depending on the availability of the head coach, beginning early or mid-August through the end of October for training with the team’s head coach, and also play 8 - 10 league games on weekends starting the Saturday prior to Labor Day weekend.
All U9 – U12 teams are assigned an available practice field in the general area of the head coach. Each team is allotted 90-minute practice sessions. Volunteer coaches are asked to focus on coordination and individual skill development during the practice sessions.
The weekend games are formatted into small-sided games as follows: U9-U10 age groups play 7v7 games (6 field players + a goalkeeper) with 25-minute halves and U11-U12 play 9v9 games (8 field players + a goalkeeper) with 30-minute halves.
Volunteer coaches are designated to run the weekly practices and supervise the weekend games for their respective teams.
All U9 and U10 games are held in San Ramon, while the U11 and U12 games are held in San Ramon and Dublin through the clubs' joint playing league.
Coaches are selected by the Development Director from parent volunteers who express interest. Volunteering to coach offers a rewarding opportunity to work with children and build their skills and self-esteem. All coaches and assistant coaches are required to register for the club and to get fingerprinted for a background check.
SRFC provides support to volunteer coaches by providing coaching curriculum handouts and free coaching clinics beginning in August.
U9 – U12 recreational teams are formed in late July and players are assigned to teams by the San Ramon FC staff.
Coaches will notify players of their team placement by the first week of August.
